Autophagy:
Autophagy is a highly conserved catabolic process which maintains energy homeostasis of a cell by degrading and recycling obsolete cytoplasmic materials such as defunct organelles and protein aggregates. It is an important cell autonomous innate immune defense process against invading pathogens. Autophagy play cardinal roles in detoxfication and removal of waste byproducts of different cell metabolic processes and thus protects the cells from getting cancerous. Autophagy by performing myraids of cytoprotective functions prevents our body from several ailments including cancer, neuro-degenerative diseases and diabetes. Therefore, understanding the mechanistic details of autophagy process is important to exploit this process for therapeutic purposes. Due to paramount importance of autophagy in health science, the 2016 year Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine is awarded to Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi for his outstanding fundamental research  work on autophagy.

Main Goal of Autophagy India Network (AIN):
The main aim of AIN  is to promote outstanding autophagy research in india through collaborative science.
